L69 or LG4
Hello. everyone. I pruchased my first gen 3 trans am today. I am so pumped to make her beautiful. She is a 83 black and gold trans am with a tan interior. It runs awesome and only has one ruct hole. It has 74,000 origional miles and I bought it from the origional owner.
My question is did the LG4 have a functional hood scoop this year. Mine does but from what I was reading they didnt.
Im sure i will be asking alot of questions and posting alot of pictures in the days to come. Thanks guys.

In 83 and 84, all T/As had the functional air induction system.
There were only 662 T/A with the L69, so make sure yours is the real deal (1G2AW87Gxxxx), electric fan and five speed transmission.

There were some '83.5 Trans Ams built with the L69 and a 700R-4. I had one. Mine was red over black. And it did come off the assembly line that way.

I'd have to see the RPO sticker to believe it... not a scan on the Internet, but in person. Until such time as that occurs, it doesn't, and didn't, exist. You'd have the ONLY ONE there ever was. Kind of like having a 86 350 TPI car, or a 350/5-speed car. I'm sorry, but in this universe where things like mass production and Federal emissions certification exist, stuff like that doesn't happen.
THe L69 didn't exist until very late 83. It was roughly Feb or Mar when the first ones hit the dealers: I WAS WATCHING FOR THEM. BY DEFINTION it was a "83½". The L69/auto combo didn't exist until 84. That's why I still TO THIS DAY have a 83 L69/5-speed car; not ONLY because I had less than zero interest whatsoever in an auto trans, OR even worse, a LG4 or TBI car; but also because that was the ONLY WAY to get the L69.
As Solar posted above, the VIN code for the 83 L69 (like mine) was 7. Changed to G for the 84 and later years. Unfortunately the trans type isn't in the VIN and so can't be verified independently that way.
Zwan, look at your VIN. 8th digit is the motor it came with. H = LG4; G = L69; F = TPI. Odds are several thousand to one that it was NOT the L69.
