what motor is this...
I bought a 88 camaro RS the other day, guy said that someone before him swapped the motor out with a 350.... curious as i am i wanted to check the casting number to make sure it was a 350, now the only thing i can find on the motor is 5.7LG SGI and i was wondering if there is anything special about this motor or do i keep buying parts for it as if it was a 1988camaro 350?....tried looking it up and cant seem to get a straight answer, heard everything from truck motor to corvette motor... help please really want to upgrade this thing

moretec is gone! Have to search "chevy casting numbers" and find another site.
5.7 designates it as a 350, but we need casting numbers to know what year range - driver side rear of block behind/under head - it's almost impossible to see in the car, but it's there - try a flashlight and a mirror.

Is a late model, one piece seal crank , 350 block
Most likely roller cam
Block casting # is on other side behind pass side head
As you have found out , one block casting may have been used for many different engine combos; Truck / HiPo / 2 or 4 bolt mains so only way to tell exactly what engine is ,
is to look at 2 or 3 letter code stamped on the block pad at front of pass side head
Tells year / Hp / trans / original vehicle

you definitely should have a casting number on the back of the motor on the driver side. it may be covered in dirt and grime, but its definitely there
