ZZ4 Engine
ZZ4 Engine
I was looking at a '92 Camaro RS for sale on eBay that claims to have a ZZ4 350/355HP crate motor mated to 6-speed tranmission out of an '02 SS Camaro. While looking up the ZZ4 engine, I ran across many forums with people hating on this engine, some because of the recommendation to not go higher than 5500RPMs. Does anyone have experience with this engine and had any problems? Is the 355HP/400lbs Torque at the wheels? What potential problems would one face if they continually shifted at 6000RPMs or higher instead of the 5500RPM limit?

i have a zz4 in my car and it's a reat motor, it has 25k miles on it and i;ve never had any problems, i take it to 6k rpm every time i drive it, but power starts falling off at 5k to 5.2k rpm so over-revving it wont do you much good. its a fun little motor that will last forever if you don't spray/boost it and run a god tune on it
and i dyno'd mine with a 6 speed and d44 rear end on dynojet, was at 300rwhp and 355rwtqq

I am just going by what the listing said; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1992-...item2a092b5fc6
Well the reason I asked if that was at the wheels is because I saw a Dyno sheet for the motor and it came out to be the 355HP and I thought Dynoes tested the wheel HP; http://www.mycratemotor.com/pdfs/Dyno12499712.pdf.
I might have been a little low with the RPMs, but it says here that the recommended MAX RPM should only be 5800; http://www.jegs.com/i/GM%20Performan...0002/-1?CT=999
Do you have any 1/4 mile times sailtexas186548? 300 at the wheels is pretty good to me.

my personal best is..... 13.7! lol at 106.7 mph, and thats with a 2.1sec 60 foot spinning 1,2, and some of 3rd
. i was on old street tires...
i KNOW a thirdgen that has gone 13.1 at 106mph with a zz4 and t56 on street tires, so with tires and perfect driving i bet a zz4 could push a thrid gren into the high high twelves
