Anything I need to know about thermostats?
Put a 160 in when I first bought it. Anything wrong with this?
Got my fan on a switch, not automatic.

When the weather starts cooling down and you want warm air from the heater or for defrosting, it's going to take longer

The computer should be reprogrammed to operate at a lower temperature. If the ECM only sees it at 160, it may think the engine is too cold and run richer or in an open loop to try and warm it up. 180 is better.

I was about to do that to my car also, put a 180 in. But my dad keeps telling me that the car needs to have a 195 because the coolant temp sensor needs to have the correct operating temperature to tell the tranny how to shift and whatnot. i would say put a 195 back in it, take out the A/C to get the radiator some more air, and hook up your electric fans to a switch so you can turn them on when you want. my 2cents

As mentioned, the ECM can throw more fuel out if it's not sensing enough heat and it thinks the engine is running cold, but a 180 stat is fine - lower than 180 will cause issues though.

In this case, your dad is wrong. Although the ECM does control the locking and unlocking of the toque converter, it has no control what-so-ever over the transmission shift points - that is controlled solely by the TV cable attached to the throttle linkage. 700R4's (4L60) had no computer control at all, except for the locking of the TC. BUT - the 4L60e did have a PCM that controlled shift points (the "e" is for electronic) - these were in the 4th gen cars after 1993 (most 1993 cars had the 4L60 non-"e" tranny).
As mentioned, the ECM can throw more fuel out if it's not sensing enough heat and it thinks the engine is running cold, but a 180 stat is fine - lower than 180 will cause issues though.
