Trans Am Headlight issues
I'm having a strange problem with the pop up headlights. The left one started acting up a week ago. Sometimes it comes up most of the time it does not unless I go out there and lift it myself after I turn them on. Then it starts doing it's own thing. Ill be driving and it comes down, pops back up, comes down etc etc. The whole time the headlight is on. Now the right headlight is acting up. It comes up half way, stops, then goes all the way up, and takes a few seconds to close. I noticed that when I hit the switch the motor spins on the left one but nothing happens unless i yard on it myself. I remember being able to drive it up manually by turning the motor dial, but now nothing happens, it just keeps spinning. I hit the search button and came across a headlight module and rebuild kits. I'm wondering if Im having more than one problem here. Where is the module located by the way?

Re: Trans Am Headlight issues
I would ask Lon @ TDS, but it sounds like either the headlight motors need rebuilding, http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...roducts_id=118 or the control module http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...roducts_id=119 is going out. Or both, since the symptoms you describe point to each.
The control module is a more expensive solution, but way easier to do. Got a buddy with a 'bird, that you could test your car with his module? Very simple to unplug it & pull it from his car & test your car with his.

On the firewall, in the engine compartment.. As your facing the car, hood open....Just right of the engine, just left of the brake booster.

Re: Trans Am Headlight issues
I am having problems as well. I just do not have any power to the headlight motor plugs. I test it with a circuit tester and I get absolutely nothing. I have swapped out switches, modules, traced wires, and checked fuses. All have resulted in the same thing. No power! They worked just fine prior to my wreck. Now I have nothing.

Re: Trans Am Headlight issues
I have a 1983 Trans am that is having head light problems as well. To get my lights up I have to rock the light switch forward slowly until they pop up. Not to big of a problem but recently when I put them down the left side light was having trouble going down completly and started making loud noises at 3am.

Re: Trans Am Headlight issues
I had the same headlight problems, these guys fixed my module (I used him to repair a speedo from a Porsche 968, that required soldering, like the modules do)

And now they work great. As others have pointed out, these parts are getting harder to find.
Thought this sticker on my module was pretty funny.
