replacing engine mounts

Has anyone here replaced the motor mounts in these vehicals. Im finding it very hard to remove the old mounts.

If anyone has any advise, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: replacing engine mounts

I prefer to remove the lower control arms, but I keep reading about other guys just cutting slots for their wrenches to pass through. You could drill, grind or torch the old bolts, then just use new bolts through the holes for alignment while welding, but if you go that route, either use Moroso solid mounts, or use polyurethane mounts and be extremely careful to not overheat them while welding.

It's a real bear of a job, but it is the correct thing to do.

Re: replacing engine mounts

The worst part is usually getting to the nuts on the inside. One good way is to heat an open end wrench and bend it as necessary to get it up in there. Then use tape to hold the nut in the wrench when you go to put them back on.

The other thing I have thought about is tack welding the nuts to the frame before you remove the bolts. This might work with a stick welder if you are careful not to weld the nut to the bolt.
