Did I get a bad fuel pump?

Recently my car stopped running, but would sparatically start with low fuel pressure, just enough to idle. I figured my fuel pump was going back so I replaced it. Everything seemed fine at first but after shutting it off after driving it for a few miles it wouldn't start... surprise.. no fuel pressure again... it will start breifly if I bang the pump with a mallet but died as soon as I revved it. Any ideas what else I should check before ripping the pump back out and replacing it again?

Did you replace the fuel filter?

How do you 'bang the pump with a mallet' when it's inside the tank?

yeah, new filter, new strainer, I typed it quickly. I ment bang the tank. I'll probably be kicking myself for using a bosh pump..

Before I yanked the tank out again, I'd check the wiring. There's a plug just under the rear seat (forward of the tank) - see if your getting voltage there. And apply voltage there and see if you hear the pump running. Then backtrace the wiring - to the relay and see about it.

Re: Did I get a bad fuel pump?

I had 2 fuel pumps go bad on my blazer, one of them was within 2 weeks of installation, the other lasted 3 months. My sister-in-law had hers go out in 2 months. The brand was Airtex. If you bought that brand then I would not be surprised if it went out.

Airtex = junk!

Re: Did I get a bad fuel pump?

does anyone have a wiring diagram incase it does end up being a wiring issue? I did check for power and ground before I replaced the old pump but im starting to wonder if it's an intermittant issue...
