What's happening?

Hello everyone sorry to bug you all already since becoming a new member! But I noticed after reading a few posts that you guys are so knowledgeable and very helpful! Ok, so now that I got the butt kissing out of the way......
My car runs fine until warmed up, but only during the day if I get her warmed up at night she acts fine! Bogs down, hesitates, and takes more acceleration to get going in 1st, but is fine in other gears. Idles a little rough and after warming up if you shut the car off I have to floor the gas pedal to start it. Injectors had been tested while the car is warm and they all ohm out at 18. although it seems that the front two on driver side click a little harder than the rest. I have no engine codes, only 12. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out and really need my car running great again, since I just bought it 2 weeks ago! I love her!

Re: What's happening?

I dont have a clue to your troubles. Sorry.

But I did notice that you say you have a "1992 GTA convertible".
Sorry to say that no GTA's every came from the factory as a convertible. Which means that is aftermarket or not a GTA.

Re: What's happening?

Y thank you for pointing that out for me, turns out it's just a Trans Am with GTA emblems, LOL! But, honestly I really don't care because I love my car anyway! I am so happy with my purchase, besides the issue that I am having with it. Thanks again for the info, I found it very interesting and informative. Thank goodness I didn't get a GTA, otherwise it wouldn't be a convertible!

Re: What's happening?

Due to it only happening after it is warm, it is probably an ignition control module, a fuel pump, or the fuel injectors. It's hard to say without knowing more specifics, but they are all easily tested without having to dig deep into the car. Search this forum for the proper procedures

Ok thanks! But just curious, would a bad fuel pump cause too much gas after shut off or would the car be starved for gas? Because mine has too much gas to it after shut down. Would the injectors still ohm out at 18 if they were bad? Also, would a ignition control module throw a code? I had another car with a bad icm and it ran like crap all the time not just at high temps. Again, I really appreciate the help.

Re: What's happening?

Well I replaced my icm and my cap and rotor, drove it briefly, but not very much so once she goes on a longer ride I will post if it didn't get fixed. If I don't post anything then everything has been fine! Best of luck for everyone who is having problems with theirs!

Re: What's happening?

Are you ohming out your injectors properly? you should do it with the car off and should get a reading like 0.012- 0.018 if i remember correctly

Yes this is how it is coming out @ 0.018, sry didn't know I had to be specific on how I put it on here! , problem went away for a bit after changing plugs, wires, cap and rotor, which all badly needed to be done, but came back and now the idle surges from 500-1000 once warm. Sometimes dies while I'm driving, my son thinks it's funny that mom has to restart her car while the car is still moving. Had to get my VATS dealt with so I could have the ability to start my car every time instead of when it decides to. Gonna order some injectors from South Bay today, but won't get a chance to get to it for another week or so because first they are outta stock. Hopefully , they will get their shipment by Friday and it will be in the mail sooner. Will keep updates as everything goes on. Geeze My car is even more high maintenance than me!

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Fuel pressure regulator?

I can only check so much myself, my husband is the one who is the one who digs deeper in the car. He is the one that has to fix all the things if the injectors don't fix it. The way I see it is at least I will get all my parts changed because who knows how old they are. When I asked the guy who I purchased the car from if he had done a tune up he said that it had been running fine so he did not see the need to do one, but the car was very meticulously cared for and had absolutely no fingerprints on it at all, it's a black car! So I got that if it wasn't broken don't fix it was his motto, or if you cant see it, it's not a problem! Since when do we only do tune ups when the car is going crazy?

Re: What's happening?

Okay so I got the injectors swapped out and got a new fuel pressure regulator, which was prolly the problem the whole time, but anyway! Car starts beautifully, but has a extremely high rev and we only let it run for a few seconds to make sure nothing bad happens! Can't figure it out HELPPPPP!

Re: What's happening?

Does the engine idle at a high speed or do you mean the engine revs past the limit when u hit the gas?

Upon start up, the car on it's own revs really high and doesn't come down unless you shut her off! I can't believe this crap! LOL, she is so lucky I love her!

Re: What's happening?

At what RPM does it idle at exactly? Excessive idle speed could possible be caused by vacuum leaks or a faulty idle air control valve.

turns out we had a massive vacuum leak because the gasket had moved when I put the manifold back on! No more high rev!
