blown head gasket or not?

ok I started my car yesterday and there was steam coming from the exhaust. It was 80 something degrees out side so I'm guessing I have a blown head gasket. But the question is ... Is there any possible way coolant could get into the combustion chambers due to a bad intake? or intake gaskets? The intake I have is a transplant from a TA and I was just wondering if it could be the problem?

Re: blown head gasket or not?

Sure can, have you checked your oil yet? Is it milky? How's the coolant level?

Re: blown head gasket or not?

the oil is ok. but i took the intake and heads off yesterday and one of the middle bolts on the drivers side of the intake had oil all over it? and i couldnt find a smoking gun that pin pointed the coolant burning out the tailpipe.

Re: blown head gasket or not?

They got these pressure tests at autozone for bout 30 bucks with the solution... try that, outher signs are air bubble in coolant..oil in coolant...coolant in oil..smoky engine..smoky exaust, I have also heard if u hold a piece of dry paper in front of the exaust and u get a bunch of wet marks it could be blown head gasket, O btw be careful with that pressure test kit too...it blew up in my face and brnt me good

Re: blown head gasket or not?

When doing a pressure test, pressurize the system no higher than 20 psi.

Re: blown head gasket or not?

The oil on the intake bolt shouldn't be an issue as the bolts do hang into the lifter valley, hence why you always want to coat them in black rvt.
