my head is spinning. help
ok time to build power im tired of losing races. i have a budget around 5000. goal is 400-450 horse range. I know i want to start with a totally new 383 engine. i know i want to run afr heads and i know i want to have mid to high end power. there is so much info out there some i understand and some i don't. I am a beginning auto tech so im trying but it can be overwhelming. anyone know a good setup or some simple information i can find to start this project. can i even run the setup i discribed? thanks. by the way car is 1992 camaro z28 350 auto.

Guess you should start with what do you have already that you can still use? I grabbed a 80k motor out of a 97 tahoe for my base, but i only used the block. Everything else i needed to buy. Am hoping i will make around 500 at the motor, run mid 11's. So far i have $5800 in the motor, not including hoses, fuel lines, radiator, fuel pump and of course the nitrouse. I would suggest you not cheap out on the bottem end tho. Get forged, steel crank should be fine for 500hp, i have a friend running steel cranks in his high compression mud trucks with over 700hp and never had issues.
i paid $1500 for my bottem end, had a guy deck the block, bore, hone, install plugs and rear main seal, all ARP bolts for $850. Then if you go through rick on your afr heads thats $1250 with no upgrades on them, i upgraded the springs so my cost was around $1400. i though hell, budget build of 3 grand for my motor, well am exactly at $5888 and still not done
Thats not including the beafed up trans and rear to support the power. I can post a list of parts i bought and parts i need to buy if your interested
Or you can save yourself a headache and buy an already complete 500hp 383, that option is looking awfull good right now for me as i went and still am going through what you are, this board helped me out alot. You should look my name up and read my post i put here, All the guys have been great to get me through my issues lol

i love the idea of just putting on a supercharger but the engine has 120k on it and who knows how long the drivetrain would holdup. in all honesty i am just being rushed and if im on a budget this car probably wont get to my goal anytime soon. thanks for the info thou.
