Serpentine setup??? help

Im wondering how to run my belt. I have a regular serpetine setup that came on my 90 firebird. I no longer have a smog pump & I'm currently running an electric water pump. I don't know how to exactly run the belt & be sure everything is rotating properly? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

I'm running without Smog and AC. I have the AC delete pulley and a waterpump still. You don't have a lot of choices really. The only thing you're really changing is you're not going off the crankshaft pulley up to the waterpump then to the powersteering. It'll follow the same route you'll need a smaller belt for sure. Measure it and go to the parts store to pick it up. You're still going to go around the outside of every pulley except for the belt tensioner you're going to go under that so it pulls tight. That being said you're not going to have as much belt contact on the crankshaft pulley but that's probably not that big of deal being the power steering is going to put the most pressure on the belt and only in turns.

I just worried about not havin' enough contact on the crank pulley...do you think it would hurt the engine cus it dosen't sound like it would be good for it.

Re: Serpentine setup??? help

Only things that would affected would be Power Steering and Alternator. Neither of those puts a lot of strain on the belt normally. I doubt then there would be an issue since there are several members running electric water pumps here on the board.

i really wish someone here with an electric water pump would chime in on this...im not worried about the power steering & alt. being an issue...just mainly worried about the crank...

Re: Serpentine setup??? help

Not sure if I'm not being clear or what. The serpentine belt has nothing to do with how the motor runs besides the accessories it drives (water pump, smog, AC, PS, Alt) which in your case is only the PS and Alt. Your motor would run all day if you had a way to recharge the battery since your water pump is electric and not belt driven.

Well A/C, Power Steering, & Alt....gotta underdrive kit on the crank & alt. Would running a optima battery solve my low volt issues....bc u are saying that i would have low voltage issues right?

Re: Serpentine setup??? help

You would only have voltage issues if it slipped. I imagine you'll still have plenty of wrap.
