Too many people build dump truck engines that will snap your head and go nowhere. SOTP is a lousy measurement of anything
Thats my thoughts... I did an HSR swap on an L98 and SOTP you can tell it seemed to pull better up top but lost a touch of the midrange torque rush TPI used to have...however the HSR was significantly faster down the track and matched TPI's 60 foots to boot. Just an intake swap, same everything else. SOTP is hard to judge.

Exactly. If SOTP was important we'd never have the LT1 or the LSX motors. The L98 has much better SOTP from light to light.

That's why I don't understand these "truck motor" builds. RPM=HP build something you can rev to the valve train's limits (typically 7000 in many cases) and put the HP/torque from 2500-6500. HP/TQ at 1500 does nothing. Ever win a race at 1500?

Once... blew the intercooler piping off and I costed to a 12.0 at 79 to his 12.2 at whatever it was. Still got him

But I agree, no reason to limit rpm if you build a motor to handle it.

Sorry but this really made me laugh. Thanks man it's good to have a bit of sarcasm with my coffee in the morning.

The thing about that TPI build that I found "amazing" was the fact it made incredible torque and great HP too. It looked like a perfect balance for a TPI street car. Since we're talking about building a light to light TPI car I don't think he want's some high RPM screamer unless he's also wanting to over gear/stall for a street car.

Light to light racing is about traction... torque doesnt do well on street tires so TPI can be hard to control. My old L98 combo kicked but from a dig on ET streets however but you still had to be touchy on the throttle.
My 383 being a high rpm motor and less torque down low than most other 383 builds spun all kinds of tires and I didnt have too much gear or too much stall. Once it got rolling it was a tough car to run against.. It would trap 119 in the heat. Tweak your suspension and run good tires, you can win many short street races with less power than others. Look at how STI's and Evo's dominate light to light races against many higher hp cars... traction.

I jumped out ahead of a 6.0 GTO 6spd car once as I just happened to be on ET streets with my L98 stealth ram setup I was looking for trouble and found it... GTO I held off thru part 2nd gear then he gained on me and pulled away hard haha. Race was lost in just under an 1/8 mile I'd say.

This 300whp TPI build will probably break 400wtq. Thats a bunch. If it hooks it will rip but it wont be easy hook. But if he puts it behind a T56 on good tires, the rear end is in question. So its a balancing act.

I plan on running 373 gears. I assume popping first gear is what will make damage correct. Its the shock that breaks parts??

yeah quick transition of power from quick clutch work will shock the driveline and that usually means snapped driveshafts or most often broken ring/pinion gears
