'87 Z28 Speedometer Cable

So my friend's '87 Z28 V8 TPI A/T had the speedometer cable ripped out at some point from when he bought till now (2 months). The previous owners obviously didn't do anything right on this and it looked like it was raced.

It seems the car HAD cruise control and someone ripped it out. The trans side of the cable has no where to put the cable in. It's simply a two pronged outlet for what looks like the old cruise sensor. However, the old cable did work because he had an operational speedometer for the first week or two he owned it. So it's confusing why it wasn't a cruise set of wires going to this sensor and instead was a cable but nothing to put it into.

Any ideas? Much appreciated!

IIRC, by 87 there was no transducer, so the speedo cable would have been routed from the tail shaft of the trans (auto or manual) directly to the speedo head. The wiring you refer to is probably the connection of the reverse lights.

So that sensor connection is for the reverse lights? Where am I going wrong trying to find where the speedometer cable goes?

If the trans is from a thirdgen, whether it's auto or manual, electric or cable driven, there's a hole on the tail shaft (driver's side) that accepts the gear housing/VSS.
