Re: sparkplug wires location. help .

You'll have to find TDC for compression stroke on #1 cylinder first.

Spark plugs number in order, driver side front to firewall, 1 3 5 7
pass side front to firewall 2 4 6 8

Remove #1 spark plug, stick finger in hole. Have someone turn over the motor - when you feel outward air pressure from plug hole, and timing mark is close to zero, you then have the compression stroke - line up the timing mark on zero.

Now, look at distributor - where the rotor points, you want that to be the #1 plug wire on the dist cap. Plug that wire to cap, replace #1 spark plug, and run that wire to #1 spark plug.

Now, firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 - so going clockwise on the dist cap from that #1 wire, you connect next cap terminal to #8 plug, next to #4 plug, etc.

Just start with #1. Whichever wire fits comfortably to you then there you go.

Re: sparkplug wires location. help .

Number one on the cap is a direct straight line from no. 1 cylinder to the cap. In other words if you are standing in front of your car then no. 1 cylinder is the first cylinder on the driver's side (your right) toward you. Ok, so imagine a straight line from there to the distributor cap. The line will be a 22 degree angle really, if you are standing directly in front of your car. No. 1 on the cap will be right across from the brake booster vacum hose that attaches to the back of your plenum.
