What engine is that?

I'm guessing it's for a timing probe for the dealer diagnostic machine.

I beleive that is where the camshaft position sensor goes. As Five 7 said, what engine is this?

On second thought, this may be a view from the bottom. It think this may be a Vortec motor. In which case that would be where the crank sensor goes.

Assuming the OP's two threads were referencing the same engine, I merged them.

So, sounds like a Vortec engine, and therefore, assuming Doc knows what he's talking about, it's for the crank sensor. If you aren't using a Vortec control system on the engine, you don't need the sensor (assuming I know what I'm talking about - which may not be a good assumption).

+1 on the vortec engine, or atleast the plastic timing cover. You can see the 4x reluctor in there too. If plugging the hole is your only concern, grab a sensor from any of the 4.3/5.0/5.7 vortecs in a JY
