Help Me Put It Back Together

I'm not sure if this should be under general engine or TPI. I apologize if it is in the wrong spot and for the horrible quality of the photos which were taken with my phone. These questions are likely very simple and I would appreciate the help.

ta1.jpg?t=1286918398

I know the right most one if for my transmission fluid stick. What is the left one? What hose goes to it? It feels really loose as though it could be pulled out even though it wont.

ta2.jpg?t=1286918571

What goes here?

ta3.jpg?t=1286918704

Passenger valve cover. What goes in the grommet and what does the other end go to?

ta4.jpg?t=1286918757

Drivers side valve cover. After I swapped them out, the stock oil cap wouldn't fit so bought a different style cap which didn't fit either. Is the cap supposed to go in the right or left hole? Also, I believe which ever hole the cap doesn't go in, a grommet goes in as well as a hose. Where does the end of the hose go?

If you need to know, the engine is a 5.7 in a 1988 GTA.
I really appreciate any help!

Re: Help Me Put It Back Together

in the first picture is that the hose for the smog control stuff that goes from one manifold to the other, it should be a hardline that runs over the bellhousing right behingd the motor, if it is, you can probably just take it out, since you dont have the other one and your not using it. sorry if thats not it.

in picture three you can put a crankcase breather filter on there.

in picture four, the oil fill cap goes on the back hole, and the front hole i believe should have a pcv valve in it.

i have very similar (if not the same) valve covers and thats how mine are hooked up.

Thanks! I hope that is for smog control. I would like to just take it out but its not coming. What does the other side of the hose that goes to the pcv vale go to?

It goes to the vacuum port, under the plentum.

Re: Help Me Put It Back Together

It looks like you have a TPI. The crankcase breather can have a filter on it or you need to run a hose from it to the Throttle body (Thats the hole in the passenger side valve cover). If you just use a breather then you need to plug the hole on the throttle body. The PCV needs to go into the drivers side valve cover and have a hose from the valve to the plenum like 90vertiroc said. It really doesn't matter which hole you use for what on the drivers side, but in stock form the oil filler is closest to the firewall and the PCV is closest to the front of car like corey13 said. The pipes all over the place are for the smog system. If you remove them then you have to plug the holes in the manifolds. Some people just cap the tubes.

This shows the Crankcase and PCV routes.

As far as smog stuff, cap the manifolds and cut off the pipe at catalytic converter and cap it or weld it shut. Check the following for help removing.
