Need experts of dirty and clean engines here!
Quick story, then 2 questions.
I bought my v6 firebird with smog issues. Mainly bad fuel injectors. Replaced those and also replaced gaskets(Fixing valve cover leak issue(Important to question 1.)) from the top stopping before the heads and the lower intake. Never cleaned the engine except for steam cleaning the intake manifold.
Car bought with 107k, now with 113k after about 6 months.
Yesterday I noticed oil stains near the head. It looks like a bad head gasket or its old oil from the history of the leaking valve cover.
Would those stains have run off by now after 6k miles of running with supposedly no leaks? Or is there such thing as semi-bad head gasket(hair fracture)?
I love driving the bird although its a v6. I'm hopefully dropping in an ls1 this coming summer. Just curious if I'll be driving the truck and sitting a blown up v6 this winter and spring.

Lol I am leaking oil between the transmission and engine. I bought the car with the transmission mount in half and the drive shaft was grinding against the car. i replaced the mount but that didnt seal that problem. So for me the oil check test will not work. I'm pretty sure i need to clean the engine and inspect again later.

Leaking oil between the engine and transmission may be the rear main seal. I have also seen transmission fluid blow out of the dipstick, but that normally coats your windshield. The oil may take a longer path than where the leak is located. Just like when you change your oil and it runs down the exhaust, across the frame member and drips where your catch pan isn't sitting. Keep in mind that as you are driving, leaks will blow backwards, so look for the wettest part of the engine that is the furthest forward (unless you drive 50 mph backwards - LOL).
