Steering pump loose / March brackets

HI,

I got a March pulley and bracket kit with an electric waterpump!

my problem is that my steering pump going loose everytime after a few miles cruizing.

i see wen i pull on the steeringwheel the whole pump moving up and down.
so my belt is going a little loose and the pump is no more in line with the crank pulley!

is there a special extra heavy bracket for the pump?
i think there must be a extra bracket on the backside of the pump.

did somebody heart about the problem?

thanks dennis

Re: Steering pump loose / March brackets

In your 2nd pic, what is the piece that looks like it's hanging down, just to the right of the balancer pulley & water pump that looks kinda like a backwards " j " ?

In the March pic, they have 2 black parts-- 1 behind the alt, & a " L " or
" ] " looking part behind the steering pump. Are those included? Not needed??

I've never seen it in person, only in Jegs & Summit, but just caught my eye.

Hi t-top havoc,

in the second picture u see a `J` that is a kind of bracket.
in that picture it wasn`t installed yet !!

in the March pic were you talk about, are the spacers for the alternator and PS brackets! you must buy it appart. you need them only when you take a electric water pump.

Re: Steering pump loose / March brackets

Ive had the same problem with march stuff, too.

Is it fine, but then comes loose, or does the whole bracket flex at all times even after tightening the bolts?

Yep - in that 2nd pic, the bottom of that backwards "J" that was pointed out attaches to the back of the P/S pump.

Iroc-Dennis---

If you're taliking about the bolts needing to be re-tightened, give it a few days of driving & adjusting so the belts get stretched enough, then use some type of thread locker.

Re: Steering pump loose / March brackets

no sorry it is not the bolts that must re-tightened. the bolts are just fine!

the problem sits in the steering pump brackets.
if you steering a few times you can see moving the pump from left to right a little!

i think i must make an extra bracket on the back side of the pump so hey can`t move anymore.

guys let me know how you fix it!!

Re: Steering pump loose / March brackets

the problem is simply the design of that bracket. The best solution is to fabricate a strap that bolts to the back of the pump and to the block somewhere so it's in tension when the belt is pulling on the pulley. A good location would be that extra header bolt hole not used on your L98 heads.

Re: Steering pump loose / March brackets

i have make a piece of metal (strip) from about 3 cm tall and 10 cm long and 0,5 cm thick. make some holes in it and connect is from the back of the pump to the front of the head were i can put a bolt in!
i must check end this week if it works,it was to late for today.

i let you know and make a picture!
