I want more power
Here is my situation. I bought a 1980 malibu from a co worker. I got a great deal on it, but I have no idea what size cam is in it. I am wanting to put some better flowing, smaller chamber heads on it becuz as of right now it has these awful 76cc 194-150 crate engine heads on it. It runs like a top right now and has a strong 350 4 bolt in it. I just think if I had some better heads I would have a great deal more power. It has a eddle proformer rpm high rise, a I am guessing pretty mild cam due to the fact it doesnt have a stall on it and it doesnt pull at idle too awful bad. It sounds great but I can barely out run my buddys stock 95 z28 in the 8th of a mile. What are some sujestions on making more power? And how can I get in the ballpark of matching heads to that cam? Oh yeah Its got flows headers, a knock off msd hei dist. and 350 turbo with valve body work done. Can anyone help me?

If it's outrunning a stock LT1 in the 1/8th it ain't that slow!
But yeah, basically to get power it requires more air and more fuel. Heads, cam, and if the demand is there --- carb. You can get descent power from stock or machined Vortec heads off the Chevy trucks from 95-98 or 99.

Yeah. I am thinking seriosly of the vortec heads. A guy that lives near me has some 461 heads but I just dont feel right putting 40 year old heads on the car. I am limited to what I can do to it cuz of my budget but heads are where I want to start. atleast if I got the 461 heads I wouldnt have to get a new intake and valve covers. If I have to I will though. I could proble come up with a extra 300 bucks to throw on an intake and covers. Anyone know which head of the 2 flow better? vortec vs. 461?

It already has an edlebrock 750 proformer rpm carb on it. ( I know it is a little oversized for the app but it does REALLY well and it came with the car so.....) What is the deal with these 33417369 heads that are on it now? I read all over the net that they are boat anchers. Any one know if you can machine them and get anything out of em or should they go in a pile with beer cans and scrap copper im going to haul off? anyone know what size intake runners they have?
