1987 350 L98 TPI to CARB
K I have a GUTTED 1978 Camaro Im going to start building, and I picked it up along with a 1987 Corvette 350 L98 TPI motor for free. Now Im not very fimilar with the TPI, nor encouraged by it so Im wondering the steps and parts to take to swap it to carbeurated ***NO MATTER WHAT I AM GOING TO USE THIS MOTOR , SO PLEASE DONT SUGGEST GOING ANOTHER ROUTE***
Id like to know what internals would be best (pistons,cam,crank,rods,etc.) as well as the Intake Manifold and heads.
Also Block rating for the L98 350!
Goal: around 500 hp, possible spray.
Again I am not familiar with this kind of motor, but know how to wrench, and would like some advice and tips to help me reach my goal.

I moved this because you are not putting this into a 3rd gen chassis, therefore it is not a 3rd gen "engine swap". So, no discussion about what it would take to put it in the 2nd gen Camaro will be allowed. But, discussion of the engine specifics is fine, because that applies just as easily to 3rd gens.
Taking off the TPI stuff is simply a matter of taking off the TPI stuff. After you do that, put carb stuff back on.
For 500 HP, you're going to need a fairly stout bottom end. You might as well start with a forged rotating assembly (forged crank, forged pistons, and good rods). Yes, you could do it with a stock crank, but it's all a matter of how much risk you're willing to live with. The difference between properly prepping your stock crank and buying a forged unit ready-to-go will probably be less than a couple hundred bucks. Forged pistons is always a good bet with spray. Good rods (take your pick - H-beam or I-beam) shouldn't even be questioned.
Heads - pretty hard to go wrong with AFR. The 195's should hit that with spray.
Cam - a factory-type roller-lifter stick from Lunati, Comp, etc., with a peak powerband around 6000-6500 RPMs should be simple enough. Factory roller lifters are up to that task.
Intake manifold - Performer RPM.
Carb - 750 Holley.
400 HP NA is pretty straight-forward with a 350. Add a 100 shot, you've got your 500 HP.
A Vette engine should already have 4-bolt mains. ARP main cap bolts or studs is good insurance.
