engine hard to turn after rebuild
I am rebuilding a LS1 to go in my 92 camaro and it takes 200 foot lbs of torque to get the engine to turn. Once the engine starts to turn then it is easy to turn. Is this normal for a complete rebuild or do I need to take it back apart?
Re: engine hard to turn after rebuild
I've had SBCs require 70-80 ft/lb to turn (with no plugs in, of course) but never than much, even with 300# valve springs. What cam/springs are installed? What was the ring end gap? Skirt clearance? Did the assembly lube wash out somehow? I'm assuming the engine is in a stand, and not mated to a transmission, correct?
Did you test the crank in the mains before installing the rods/pistons? That usually requires only a few inch pounds to break free.

No, that is not good! 200 Foot Pounds to start it turning? How did the crank turn before you put the rods and pistons in the block? I would say a problem with one or more rods, maybe a mixed up cap or a piston installed backwards? Did you bore the cylinders? could be wrong end gaps on the rings.
