Code 44 issue
I'm having an issue with a code 44. After getting the engine up to temperature (such as a short highway drive), then having the car idle for a bit at a stop light, the car will stumble and idle very rough. If I don't give it some gas it will dye. It will start back up, but if I sit at idle for any length of time it will die again. Once I get back on the highway or going down the street at a decent speed, the check engine light will go off and it will run fine until sit at idle again. I've already replaced the O2 sensor with a 3-wire which seemed to make the situation better. Apparently the issue is better but not gone. By better, I mean that it doesn't idle nearly as rough and it still lets me restart it. When the issue initially started, the idling was much worse and it was very difficult to restart. Typically only allowing me to restart after a cooling off periond.
Related steps I have taken since the issue started: Replaced O2 with a 3-wire, new spark plugs, new coil, new fuel filter, and set the timing.
Any ideas?

Re: Code 44 issue
lean could also be caused by too low maf readins, check the maf signal w/ a scanner, might try cleaning the wire. Did you use K&N filters? Those oiled filters can cause varnish buildup on the wire that doesn't readily burn off. Also check if the maf burnoff works, might want to check the maf power, burnoff & fp relay for corroded pinouts or connectors. Might want to replace them if questionable.

Re: Code 44 issue
check for exhaust leaks near or upstream if the O2 and check the air system for leaks and if it works correct

Re: Code 44 issue
Did you ever get this resolved? Have an 88 Firebird that I picked recently that's doing the exact same thing.
