Headers, Intake, Cam...Oh My!

So, I'm looking at spending some money when I get back home and am curious about getting some of the above. Now, I'm a novice when it comes to the mechanics of it all, so any advice/help/opinions are greatly appreciated.

My 1990 IROC-Z 350 engine has 160k on it and is almost time for a rebuild. Therefore, I'm thinking about getting some headers, aluminum intake, and a bigger cam. I can't seem to find the stock cam size for my car and unsure on the lift I should be looking at.

Any suggestions on manufacturers or advice on installs/research? Also, how much HP/torque gain could I be looking at for these three upgrades? And, will these require any adjustments or upgrades for other major components?

Re: Headers, Intake, Cam...Oh My!

I have the same engine in my 92 z28 and I just rebuilt it this summer. I went with a Comp Cams XR264HR cam and matching roller lifters. Also had the heads and intake ported, upgraded the entire valve train with Comp components (all roller) and upgraded to 24# injectors from Southbay. Car runs pretty strong and if you believe the Comp Cams Cam Quest program, should be putting out about 330 horses or so. I also went with a set of headers from Edelbrock which are emissions ready because we have pretty strict smog tests here. Anyway, that's my setup and 2 cents worth. Hope that helps some.

Thanks, what lift was that cam? Guess I could just look it up. I'm thinking of Hooker headers, I know Holley is a very reputable brand that's been around a while.

Re: Headers, Intake, Cam...Oh My!

The cam specs are .488 lift on intake, .495 lift on exhaust. 108 degree centerline with a duration of 212 on intake and 218 on exhaust. Nice computer friendly setup as I am still running the stock computer and chip. I hear ya on the Hookers, I can't say that I am not the biggest fan of Edlebrock, but the headers are nice and came with everything in the kit. I popped for the ceramic coated ones, and recommend that for whatever brand you choose. Looks good under the hood and controls some of the heat.

By the way, thank you for your service! I deeply appreciate it. I have a son who is an Operation Iraqi Freedom vet. You guys in the armed forces are sacrificing greatly! Take care of yourself.

Re: Headers, Intake, Cam...Oh My!

Sine you will be rebuilding the 350, have you thought about making it a 383 and using GM's Hot cam?
