divices that are in the heads?

I had a set of 601 heads done at a machinist. when i got then back I noticed that there were plugs in the that uses a square tool to come out. I then looked on my engine and found that there is some sort of sending unit on one head and the other is some type of devide that has a wire coming out of it. Are these deviced smog related ( can I just not use them ) or do I need to use them. If I need them then what tool do I need to use to ge the plugs out.

You will probably need the sensors if you're using the same computer.Sometimes the plug squares are the same size as a ratchet,("3/8").If yours are not, measure the squares and get some key stock from the hardware store.Use an adjustable wrench to remove them.

Sounds like 1 is the oil pressure sending unit.

There's no pressurized oil in the head. The driver side head has the temperature gauge sender or warning light switch, and the passenger side has the fan switch.

Depending on how well sealed the plugs are in there, you maybe be able to use a ratchet, maybe with a filed-down extension, or you can go to a tool store and get a square-recessed pipe plug extractor.
