best way to spend 3,500

i have a 67 327 i am planning on trying to acheive 400hp at a low rpm and need advice on a good set up , i want to be scared to drive my car. well i already know what you are going to say "ditchthe 327 and build a 383" i have been sereiously thinking about it. i have access to a four bolt 350 for three hundred dollars. and well i have been doing research online but everyone contradictes each other all the time and it is getting harder to sift through all the bull***t!? and well makealong story short my jag got crush and i am trying to get compinsation. $3500 is lowest i get so that is what i am planning for. everything works but no motor... 2.73rear std diff 5sp manual. actually my 305 was leaking coolant into my cyilander, so its smoked, only put out 140 hp brand new so it super lame it was out of a 75 malibu, anyways tell me what you think....

Build it with nice internals, nice heads, intake, cam, and have a fun street car.

Re: best way to spend 3,500

i have already bought a edelbrock performer rpm intake and a performer 650 carb well that would be another grand to build a 383 instead of the 327 i already have so i guess my question is if i buy a set of rhs 200cc pro action heads 1.6 roller rockers can i get a comp cam that will put me in the 400hp range??

Re: best way to spend 3,500

I've got a 385 I guess, it's 40 over instead of 30 in my 88. Wish I'd went with 350. This engine is fun but PITA to keep cool with AC. But in your state that may not be a problem. JMO

With a $3500 budget, no wanting to keep the current motor, maybe wanting a nice warranty, proven results etc, CRATE ENGINE!!

327 is a 5.3 l why would i need to swap for a newer one that says 5.3l when i have an old one that equels the same displacement? they both should put out around he same amount of power and on the old one i can put a badass setup on it for cheap my question is will it make 400?
