89 formula

i bought this car in the atlanta area, drove it to charlotte, nc. everything ran fine for about 2 weeks. the car has 350, 5 speed, TPI. whilepulling out of a parking lot one day, when i shifted to 2nd gear, it died. like it was out of fuel. i ended up towing it home, it wouild crank over but not start. to fire, nothing. a few days later, it started, i drove it a few miles, died again. seemed like it was not getting fuel. i changed the fuel filter first, it happened again. towed it home again. since then, i have changd the fuel pump, the coil, the didtributor, new wires, new cap, new rotor. in the past, i had a 1988 trans am that acted similarly, it turned out to be the on board computer. i replaced that as well in this car. it still does the same thing.

Re: 89 formula

I would ohm test your injectors. The injectors seem to cause a lot of head-aches with these engines...

There's a Charlotte F-Body club - pretty big - lot of great F-Body gearheads there - have you gotten up with them? I'm sure there's a local that can help you in person (always hard to diagnose sight unseen). Just type Charlotte F-Body in Yahoo/Google and you'll find them.

Re: 89 formula

My car acted that way when It heated up. It was a combination of bad injectors which in your case I don't think would cause it to actually kill. And it was the ignition module. You say you replaced the dist. I assume it came with a new one on it?

Re: 89 formula

yes, it was new also.
i have a 650 cfm edlebrock carb sitting on a shelf. i read a tech article on here, looks like a fairly easy swap to put it on. i'm leaning that way pretty heavy.
I've had 3 other of these cars, 86, 88, and a 91, this 89 is the most fun to drive of all of them. 350 5 speed, w wheel disc brakes. it's pretty rough right nown needs a lot of tlc.
