Diagnostics?

hey guys, i have an 87 camaro 305ci and the diagnostics tool to read for codes i have didnt read nothing? im wondering if i have the one that reads for 96+? if it is where can i get one that will read for older vehicles? im in canada so i haven't a clue. thanks alot for your help guys!

It is very easy to tell the difference. Can you post a picture of the plug for the diagnostic tool you have? I can tell you if you are unsure.

'87 is OBDI (introduced in '85)
'96 is OBDII (introduced in '96)

OBDI & OBDII connectors are not the same, if it fits your '87 it won't fit '96+.
At the least the scanner should give a code 12 with the key on and engine off.

​​​​​​​​ I done the paperclip on my 88 GTA to find out the codes on it and when I turn the key on it won't blink can anybody tell me why it won't read the codes off
