Fuel Rail Questions
Fuel Rail Questions
Forgive my ignorance please..
I had to pull the fuel rail to replace the stock injectors.
I'm putting everything back together.
My questions:
1. I replaced the O rings in the rail. When I put the rail back together..
and clamped down the two tubes.. it feels kind of loose. I had to push the tubing into the socket and it seemed like a snug fit.. but it's not rock solid. Should it be? Or will it squeeze together when I mount it in the car.
2. Bosch III injectors. I read that the new type is a little short. 3/16th inch..
I have the two orings at the bottom.. which is supposed to compensate.. but when I go to mount this..
I can tell it's not going to be tight vertically. Should it be?

Somewhere I read.. that the gas pressure would push it down. Is this correct?

ok, the tubing will seem lose when you first put it back together, but if you used the correct o rings, when you mount it, it shouldn't leak. Like you, I replaced my stock injectors with the Bosch III's, and they are a little short. I got mine from one of the sponsors of this site, Southbay Fuel Injectors, and they came with a little metal collar on them which made them the right length, so all I had to do was install and bolt the fuel rail down. They should be tight when everything is mounted. I have never heard of the gas pressure pushing them down.

Re: Fuel Rail Questions
I would be more concerned with the affect of the injector nozzle 3/16" higher in the bung on the injector spray pattern.

Re: Fuel Rail Questions
The fuel pressure can cause the o-ring to squirm out if it has a partial or loose fit. Had this happen with a TBI when I was running 40 PSI of fuel pressure and an o-ring blew out due to a poor fit. Almost burned the car down.
The extra o-ring should keep it in place. What you want is to have the upper o-ring fully in the bore so it seals properly. They will not be a tight fit, nor should they be. Spray pattern aside, you want to make sure the upper o-ring engages the boss so you dont risk a leak.
As for the spray pattern, its hard to say without looking, but the 3/16" of an inch probably isnt enough to cause the spray cone not to clear the lower injector boss.

Re: Fuel Rail Questions
Ok. I bolted in in. The tubes seem nice and tight. Not worried about them.
Im not sure of the metal collar mentioned. Was it part of the injector or was it a separate piece.. know of a picture out there of it? I Bolted it down tight.. the injectors fit.. but it can be pulled vertically a tiny bit.. like it's loose. It's not being physically pushed down into the seat Like the old ones were... Scared to pressurize it now..
I think i'm missing something.
I'm doing what is told in the video. I think it should be immovable and pressed in with a little force against the orings. But as it is now.. the top oring is sliding up in the fuel rail.. it's not being pressed down. Anyone got a picture of what I need for this new bosch 3?

Re: Fuel Rail Questions
If you have the double oring set up then you do not have our adapter.....which is fine either way you really should not be having a problem. Did the company that you purchased the injectors from send a copy of installation instructions?
As most of us know by now the bosch lll's are shorter than the stock injectors. The ONLY purpose for the second oring is to act as a spacer. The second oring should be visible on the outside of the intake when the injectors are installed, if you push them in too far then you are defeating the purpose.
How did you install them anyway? They need to be installed into the intake manifold FIRST then the fuel rail! Make sure that you lubricate the upper oring so that it seats properly into the rail. Yes, it is true, the pressure from the fuel rail is what holds the injectors in place. The spray pattern will be fine,,
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Re: Fuel Rail Questions
Thats what I needed to hear. Everything checks out just as you said. Yes. I lubed the orings with silicone grease and put them in first. You guys were lots of help! Many thanks!
