guys i have a question about my engine

ok i had a 350 built about 8 years ago and although its been that long i maybe have 10000 miles on it if that. anyways its been out of a vehicle for the previous 2 years and just last year in installed it into my vert. I am having the damnedest time getting this thing to run right. i changed all the normal things like cap rotor plugs and wires. the engine always seemed to run rich with a performer intake and a 600cfm edelbrok electric carb. ive leaned down the fuel all the way to 4 and back up to 7 and everything in between and cant seem to figure out why this is nt running right. here are the specs and i will do my best to remember what i used when i had the engine shop build it.

1972 350 2 bolt block rebored .30 over
.30 over pistons flat tappet?
stock 327 heads freshend up and i think milled due to being warped...cant remember
stock rocker arms
new pushrods
new crankshaft from cloverland (i worked at a parts plus dist. warehouse at the time)
here is where ic ant remember very good i believe the cam is a comp cams
12-242-2 and here is the link for the specs of that cam
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...x?csid=86&sb=2
my dad keeps asking me for the valve lashing and the card just says hyd. so i dont know what to tell him. when it comes to engines i am just behind the 8 ball on this. i wish i would have built it myself i would remember these things lol
Anyways the engine runs close to a good idle but im unsure if the cam is good for manual transmissions as that is what i have in my vert now, also if the heads are good or if they are screwing something up. any help would be great. thanks

Tell your dad there's no lash on hydraulic cams, there's preload.

Have you followed the whole tuning process in the Edelbrock manual?

Re: guys i have a question about my engine

Run through everything you tried, in order and in detail.

There's no specific preload, anything from half a turn to one and a half turns will work.

Re: guys i have a question about my engine

does the cam seem good for a manual trans? also will the 327 heads give me a different compression ratio than the normal

The cam doesn't really care what transmission you have.

Which 327 heads do you have?

they are stock 327 heads but have been fixed cause i believe they were warped or something...maybe they just had to be milled i think...its been so long. besides i kinda wanna put some 202's on there as i know the current ones ar not

Re: guys i have a question about my engine

Saying they're 327 heads is about as useful as saying they're Chevy V8 heads. There are dozens of different heads that came on 327s, which do you have? Look at the last 3 digits of the casting number, is it 775, 096, 460, 585, 462, 682, 684, 461, 461X, 896, 996, 480, 482, 680, 681, 842, 775, 520, 462, 032, 311, 313, 290, 291, 292, 293, 185, 188, 638, 040, or 126?
