Is this gap right?

Installing an HSR intake on my sbc and there seems to be an excessive gap between it and the china walls.. So much so that you can see right through to the other side.. There is next to no gap when there are no intake gaskets in place..

It is a brand new GM block, brand new Trickflow heads and brand new HSR..

How big should this gap be? Is this too big?

Re: Is this gap right?

Since you're not going to be using the end seals anyway, and instead you're going to be smearing a thin smear of "The Right Stuff" on the block, and then laying about a 3/8" tall and ½" wide bead of it on there, and then waiting about an hour for it to skim over and partially solidify, and then smearing a thin smear of it on the intake surfaces, and then bolting up the intake, it doesn't really matter.

So that size of a gap is normal then?

Re: Is this gap right?

yeah I'd say thats about right... sorta looks like that on my 383 but it was zero decked and I used right stuff for all the gaskets but I did set it on there with a felpro the first time around. I think this pic below was with felpro gaskets and rightstuff on the walls. See the thick bead... My victor efi setup has a big gap too but rightstuff seals it all up nicely on the china walls.
Do what Sofa says and it will be all good.

Re: Is this gap right?

I would say so... there is a HUGE variation in its size. Doesn't really matter. All that happens there, is it keeps the oil from falling out, which of course the little end seals are a total failure at, anyway; has no other function. So it makes no difference.
