305 burning alot of oil

Transmission: 700r4
305 burning alot of oil
so my 305 is burning alot of oil and rear main seal just started leaking. so since its going to have to come out for a rebuilt a 350 is going in what would be the best rout buy a 350 long block that has warrenty or junk yard and build it up im going to have around 1500 i already have intake carb and distributor. so what do yall think

Some people like the security of having a warranty. Personally, after seeing the quality inside of most crate engines, I prefer to build them myself, - or perhaps in your case having a trusted machinist build the long-block for you.
More care and attention to detail go into a personal build IMO.
It comes down to your personality type and exactly what you want out of the engine.
It's not that crate engines are junk or necessarily made with bad parts. It's more about the attention to detail when fitting the parts together. They tend to be on the sloppy side for tolerances. Some people are ok with that. As a builder, I'm not ok with that. The engine will work either way though.
Even at worst, the tolerances are rarely worse on a crate motor than they are in a factory stock motor.
If there are particular parts or qualities you want in your engine, then you're probably better off finding a builder that you trust to do the job locally.
