Ok im really excited im trying to get myc ar going. I think about it at work etc and maybe ill use it for great things. I like the car it ha a good engine and trans. Yeah, today i smelled gas, someone is coming by to check it out tomorrow and well see whats up with that. I have a few ideas about the engine, it runs well and feels STRONG we just have to see whats happening.
camaronewbie thanks for explaining things a bit yes i too have a life and am low on cash, the Camaro im very very enthusiastic about and i do hope i can get those issue slicked. Maybe even pressure test it too
I still see my gauges "flick: when the car turns on and off, they dont seem to work when it runs. i cant see any display on the oil pressure, temp, and battery gauges! This is minor issue compared to gas smell and smoke/steam when the cap was on (?) but its something i should look at.
Tips? Thanks!

I know your excited. I've had my car 5 years now, I've sunk over $15k into it, and I'm 24/7 chomping at the bit to go do something else to it. You'll get there (well, maybe not, as I haven't gotten there yet). But that's the fun, remember it's the journey, not the destination (yeah, doesn't help me either, but sounds good on paper).
I assume it's a 1984. What engine? I'm not very knowledgeable with the 4cyl and 6cyl motors - I'm a V8 guy.
Here are the wiring diags for almost every 3rd gen car - might help with guage issues - find the right color wire on the diags, then find it in the car, and trace it to the sender, making sure there are no breaks in the wire, and replace sender if necessary.

The
feature here works great - there's literally days worth of reading here for almost any issue (since this board has been here for many years and has as many as 30,000 members worldwide). That's the best place to start for many problems.
Always glad to help if I can - feel free to PM or email me anytime - if I don't know an answer, I'll try to point you in the right direction. But be sure to hook up with any local F-body club members in your area - nothing replaces a fresh pair of eyes that can look at your problems in person.
