shop prices?

As some of you know I have a 89rs 305tbi that I am slowly trying to put back together. Well I put it in the shop for the exhaust system to be put on and to fix the problem that was causing it to cut off/choke off when it gets hot. well come to find out that as long as it idles it holds 12/psi on the fuel, but when going down the road it drops to 5psi which means the FP is gone. so the shop owner (friend of my dad) said $440 for the fuel pump replacement and the cat back. this is a CAT that flows really well (wink, wink), all 2.5in piping, chinese flowmaster (copycat) muffler, and new dual 2.5in chrome tips.

sounds like a good deal to me what do yall think?

Re: shop prices?

As tough as those pumps are to install, or should I say dropping the tank is tough, that sounds very reasonable to me especially if that is also including parts.

Re: shop prices?

heck yeah!!!! that is what I thought I had to explain that to my wife that at least I don't have to lay on the ground. here in NC its been raining and snowing and I don't have a shop or concrete anywhere at home. It would take me a week to put it in and then I would have to hope that I did it right. and I still couldn't do the muffler.
Thank you for chiming in she just wants to know that this car will be worth it. I promised to take for some trips with the ttops out during the spring and summer.

If I do this right she might let me get another toy. (lol) so far I still got a little body work and a paint job and possibly a little weather stripping to do and I have a high rise spoiler to put on it and that will be about it.

thank you

Re: shop prices?

just found out from shop that someone before me put a TPI fuel pump in. It wasn't running right something about made to put out 95psi but only put out 5 psi as long as it was under load. it was replaced with the TBI fuel pump and is purring like a kitten. my mechanic told me that if it would have working correctly that the excess pressure would have damaged the throttle body so it turns out that the $440 was well worth it.

Now to fix a little skip, once again it's on.
