Starter issue, please help!

When trying to start my car, I'm hearing a "clunking" noise when the starter is engaged. The car is turning over, but there is this loud clunking/grinding type of noise. But it doesn't do it every time, sometimes it will turn over and fire right up. I've given the starter a visual look as well as the flywheel, and everything seems to be okay. No broken teeth in either and nothing that makes it look like it's binding. Any suggestions?

Re: Starter issue, please help!

Try checking the flywheel (flexplate). It may be broken where it bolts to the crankshaft.
