its the EGR valve you can get a blockoff plate at almost any auto parts store. getting rid of the CCC carb you need to change the dist. also to a vacuum advance early style to avoid the computer from adjusting the timing.

And you need to deal with the computer not locking the TCC and check the TV cable geometry.

on the distributor.

You also have to get a geometry corrector for the TV cable - it attaches to the linkage on the carb and the TV cable attaches to it.

And you'll need a method of locking the torque converter since the computer is now gone.

The squarebore carb to spreadbore manifold adapter is a bit of a performance killer, too.

Re: What is this gold thing its in the way of my new carb

1) Vacuum advanced HEI distributor and coil $125
2) Geometry corrector for TV cable $20
3) Method of locking torque converter - free to $125+ - depends on what method you choose https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...c-control.html
4) EGR blockoff plate $20

Your car is computer controlled - it gets inputs from the carb, the exhaust, the engine, and changes fuel mixtures and timing, locks/unlocks torque converter, etc. and thus is getting 'tuned' on the fly. You cannot just slap any aftermarket carb on the top and keep going. All the computer-related items need swapped out or deleted as well.

Then all the new non-computerized stuff needs tuned - timing needs set, carb needs adjusted, etc.

This is not an overnight project.

Re: What is this gold thing its in the way of my new carb

Also - if this car was carbed before with a factory carb, you're taking a step backwards in performance and mileage - you can't beat the factory carb setup.

i have a question though before i spend more money trying to put in this carb, which you say will rob power where can i get a rebuilt one or refurbished one cheap, i have the original one still its a 1987 4bll and by what everyone is saying it seems like a better idea to stick to the original

Re: What is this gold thing its in the way of my new carb

you can get a rebuild kit for about 15-25 bucks at your local parts store it dosent take long to rebuild I did 2 in 4 hours thats removal from the car and reinstall. just note all the settings when you break the carb down (idle screws turns from seat are about the only thing if you do a basic rebuild).
