Hi all and an 83 Camaro electric window problem

Hi new here, I just bought an 83 iroc, its not in too bad a nick, but I can see myself asking a few questions here, Its been converted to RH drive for australian conditions and has a non standard 350 motor with a 3 speed auto. I went to wind the LH window up and it doesn't work, it was working when i bought it. I have pulled the door skin off (well nearly, the top is stuck) unclipped the wires to the window motor, put a multimeter on them, yep power to both, my question, is this a sure sign that the motor is blown, or maybe some sort of limit switch may be broken, If the motor is blown, whats the best way to get the old one out? Are there any dangers to watch for like spring loaded levers or similar? thx Gus

Re: Hi all and an 83 Camaro electric window problem

nothing too bad the motor is rivited to the regulator you need to have the window about half way up to remove it from the tracts. if you just need to get it to roll up you can try hitting the motor with a shot of brake or carb cleaner sometimes it works. For getting the interior panel off once you get the clips off the inside take a long screwdriver to lift up on the plastic on top it has clips that hold it to the window opening.

and welcome to the board.

Hey, Gus, welcome to TGO. There aren't many questions that haven't been asked and answered, so a search on site is generally a good idea.

BTW, the first year for the IROC was 85.

Good luck with your project.

Here's a great thread on window motor replacement, and includes a printable template:

And another article on door innards in general with pics:

The third brake light and the taillights themselves are not from an 83. Nor are the IROC-Z emblems. All, however, are consistent with an 88, to include yellow paint. I'm not a vin expert by any means, but a vin "C" would appear to make the car an 82. (FWIW, yellow wasn't offered in 82 or 83.) Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice, because an 88 wouldn't have been originally equipped with an H motor (LG4 carbed), but an 82 or 83 would have been. My guess? Clone.

1 USA
G Gen motors
1 Chevy
A Restraint system
P Car line series
87 Body type
H Engine type and make

C Model year
L Assembly plant

You may find the following, concerning IROC identification, interesting:
