do you know what this is
a metal tube that runs along the frame on the passenger side in the engine compartment. hooks up to the firewall. i think it is for the heater. i don't know what it is called to replace it as mine is rotted out. it is #2. and i don't have tpi, just carb so do i really need it or just run rubber hose.

Re: do you know what this is
That is a heater pipe. You can replace it with rubber. Though finding the OE part will help preserve the integrity of the car. Just be sure if you use rubber hose, to route it away from the exhaust manifold.

Re: do you know what this is
Thats part of the whole system that bypasses the heater core when the AC is on so it blows colder. Number 5 breaks a lot apparently. If you switched to carb you'd usually just run one hose from your heater core to the top of the water pump, and one hose from the heater core to the intake manifold, and cap off the connection on the radiator. My car's too old to have that setup so I dont know if the diverter valve even works without the computer stuff set up.

Re: do you know what this is
ok your smart here is a post that i put on here that has not been answered.
new power mirrors
i have a 1989 camaro and i can't seem to find any side mirrors anywhere. it is not just the glass broken, the insides are, they won't stay still and have to prop them up with cardboard, and that don't even work cause my modified 350 shakes the car to much. i have looked every where, does anyone know where i can find them.
and it is 6 days old. i guess that it was just in the wrong place so no one answered, that is y i posted 2 of these, didn't know where to post it. but thanks for being so concerned about my posts.

Re: do you know what this is
I'm not trying to be a jerk here - no one has to answer you at all. We live our own lives - the fact that we choose to spend any minute of it helping you with your car issues is something that should be appreciated rather than mocked.
I was just letting you know that double posting is against board policies, and that the moderators don't look too kindly upon it, because it wastes everyone's time. That, my friend, was a gesture in kindness (I spent MY time letting you know)! So, chill.
BTW - technically 6 days is not a week.
On your mirror issue - if you don't have a local JY, check ebay - there are many mirrors on there everyday - just search "82 92 camaro mirror" and you'll get several pages. Also Thirdgen Ranch, Hawks, & A1 Auto - all great sellers and sponsors here.
Now - I'll say it again - welcome to TGO! Let's play nice - I'm only spending MY time trying to help YOU.

i would have to say that 6 days is close enough for government work. and i thought you were tryin to be a jerk so that is the reason for my postings. i honestly didn't know where to post it so i did it twice. glad i did too, cause one of them only got 1 reply and the other solved the problem except the last question i had about it. thank you for the mirror info i am looking at junk yards for the next 2 days, i was just seeing if anyone knew where to buy NEW mirrors cause i would rather buy new than used. i have spent days and nights on this computer looking for a parts car and can't find one and running low on sleep so i am a lil grumpy.

Re: do you know what this is
THere's very very little "new" anything for our cars. They aren't old enough or desireable enough for many companies to consider making reproduction parts for - like the 1st gen & 2nd gen cars. Every so often, you'll see "new old stock" parts here and there on ebay, Thirdgen Ranch, Hawks, etc. - but that's original 1980's stuff that never sold out of the dealer parts departments - the omly way to luck out on that stuff is to just check websites every few days, might take years to get what you desire (took me almost 2 years of checking ebay nightly to get a mint dash pad for a price I was willing to pay).
Alot of us, when we can't find OEM, swap in parts from other cars. On the Mirrors for example, there is a Vette mirror that's a direct swap (think it's the C5) - Vette parts are reproduced and alot of times easier to find, and usually in better condition. 4th gen seats are another popular swap - 10 years newer means cleaner/better condition.
Good luck! And hang in there. Remember it's the journey, not the destination. I'm 95% finished with my restore, and although I'm very pleased with the car, daily I also wish there was something else I could do - time for me to find another project.

Re: do you know what this is
Front & back. I swapped 4th gen seats into mine. I got a good set for $160 several years ago. The driver seat is powered as well (nice upgrade) - just needs 12v+ with a fuse (30 amp) and a ground.
The rears - 4th gen never had split rears, some 3rd gens did. But they still fit just fine with no modding. On the center hump there is the two 'pegs' welded in for the 3rd gen split seats (if you have them), the 4th gen rear seat just installs without using those 'pegs', and are pretty much completely out of sight.

Re: do you know what this is
There's a thread (I think interior or body section) that relates to 4th gen part swaps - just search "4th gen swap" and see what pops up - there's 100's of threads on TGO about swapping various 4th gen parts. Same with the Vette mirrors - just search "corvette mirror" and see what comes up.
