Has anyone ever used these heads?

Im looking for a good set of heads to get the most out of my sbc 350. I have a Edelbrock 600cfm carb, Performer EPS intake, and I also am looking for a cam with about .500 lift. I was looking at these heads http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-60899/ and wanted to know if anyone ever used then and what kind of power I could get. If anyone could give me a couple tips on what I should buy, Im looking to get 350-400HP out of it.

Thanks, Chris

Those are a damn fine head they should help you hit your mark. I would consider a edelbrock top end kit if I needed heads a cam and a manfold. But then again an airgap manifold should outperform yours.

Re: Has anyone ever used these heads?

Would I be able to fit an air gap intake and my carb under my stock hood? I can always sell my intake to my cousin.

Thanks, Chris

From all accounts that I've been able to find, it will not fit under a stock hood. You'll need a drop base air clearner to get the air gap to fit because it's a high-rise intake.

The RPM air gap will fit under a Camaro hood with a drop base air cleaner. I've done it. Friend of mine used an RPM air gap under a Trans Am hood as well with a drop base air cleaner. Its a tight fit, but it does fit.

I found an interference issue with my application. Using either an OEM glass hood from an 82 or an OEM steel hood from an 86, there's contact.
That's using a traditional drop base from Moroso.
I've seen your post referring to a GM repop piece that has more than a 2" drop. What amount of drop do you have? How tall is the filter element? What I find with any drop base is that it puts the choke horn within about a 1/4" to 1/2" of the lid itself (when looking for maximum hood clearence) and that's not a good thing performance wise.

Re: Has anyone ever used these heads?

I initially used just a generic 14x3 edelbrock chrome air cleaner which had around 1.5" drop, and it fit fine under a factory 'glass hood on my '83 Z28.

I went to the L88 air cleaner when I put a Holley 300-36 intake on the motor, which is significantly taller than the RPM. Got it under the same glass hood with the L88 air cleaner. It uses a 14x3 filter as well.

I got the air cleaner at Corvette Central. Its a repro part for a '69 Corvette 427 4bbl. Its designed for a Holley 4150 carb, but should work fine with a Qjet as well. I really like it. Expensive, but its a great problem solver. I'm using the same air cleaner now on my 454 big block, which has an tall RPM intake and 870 Holley under a 2" cowl hood.
