Need to find an aircleaner base.. 350 Perf RPM Airgap
Ugh... Made the mistake of buying an edelbrock Pro Flo before I read more info on them....
I have to get my car going for Saturday, exhaust is going on... I'm on the hunt for a drop base air cleaner.. Now, I have a 7/8" drop.. I'm looking for a 2" drop, for my 2 1/2" filter with an Xtreme K&N lid..
I have a Formula Turbo style hood, with the vent removed, with the insulation still intact. With just the carb it's pretty tight.. Anyone have any experience with this?

Nobody?
I tried a 10" Edelbrock, it was too high.. I'm going to try a 2" drop base, not sure if that will allow clearance for my choke horn..

My base is I believe a 2" drop from mr gasket. With a 4" or so high filter, it should clear, but barely. I have a cowl hood, but I remember one time thinking about going to a stock style hood and I think off the top of my head it would work. The air cleaner should have the flat provisions to clear the carb properly.

I went with a Spectre 9" cleaner - is on the shelf at Autozone for $30. It's not drop base, but it only has a 2" filter so it fits just fine. The 2" filter actually allows more airflow than a 3", because since there's no 'drop', there's no restriction in flow. I had a drop base 14"x3" - but it dropped so much that there was only in reality a 1/2 inch area all around for airflow. Plus, the 14" rubbed my distributor wires. AND - with the drop base you have to use a 1/2 inch spacer ring, which is plastic, and breaks from the heat in a month or so, creating a non-filtered space for air to flow in.
The Spectre has only one small easily fixed issue - the lid kinda points upwards (as most all lids do) - I took a long bolt, drilled a hole in a 2x4 - put the bolt through the lid and the 2x4, put nut on, and tightened it down as the lid got bent until it was flat - saved another 3/4 in spacing, and it fits fine without even touching the underhood insulation. Has worked great for me for 2 years now. And the Spectre filter that it comes with is rechargable/cleanable just like a K&N.

No - think it was Mr. Gasket cleaner base and I know it was a Mr. Gasket spacer. I needed it to clear the linkage/electric choke on my carb. I tried several brands of bases, all same issue - had to have the 1/2 plastic spacer between carb and cleaner base to clear carb linkage/choke. And it always broke from the heat, never made a good seal even when it wasn't broke, and the base always rubbed the dist right on a wire boot. That's why the 9in Spectre - it's been really nice.
