how do i find if my engine is an original?

Car: 1991 rs B4C package
Engine: 1972 355 sbc
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 10bolt 3.73 gears
how do i find if my engine is an original?

have a bet with my dad, he is saying the motor is a 305 that was swapped in from a truck i say its the factory. can anyone help?? pictures would be great

"search" feature of this forum is your friend. How to identify blocks has been discussed a few times in the 29 years that the 3rd gens have been around.

Look where the water pump bolts to the front of the block in the two places on each side of your timing chain cover. Right above the spot on the passenger side, level with the head/block mating surface, is a flat space like 1x2 inches. There should be the last few digits of your vin stamped there.
