Is this car worth buyin?

I found a 1984 z28 in an alley about 10 miles from town, an older mechanic owns it, its pretty dirty but if it was cleaned and had the engine and stuff power washed it would be pretty clean, body is straight, didnt see any rust, frames fine, its a 5 speed so im taking that it has a 305? the guy said it was a 350 but idk, its carburated, and it hasnt been drove since 1999 he said he starts it up every now and than, and with just a battery it fires right up and burns them all the way through third, its all stock, has t tops as well

wants $800 and he said for another 200 he will include a battery and some black american racing rims with new tires

and if it is worth it, what are some quick cheap mods i can do to get some horses and make the car better overall

what do ya'll think? i want somethin fast that i can mod but that can use as my daily driver as well.

$800 is a good deal on a running 3rd gen. If it has 8 spark plug wires, then it's a 305 - UNLESS someone swapped in a 350 - the only way to know for sure is to get the block ID numbers, driver side rear of block.

Re: Is this car worth buyin?

ok cool, thats what i figured especially for a v8, i would rather have a little newer one but I had about 1600 to spend on a car, so instead I can buy this one and invest the other 800 into it or 700.

You may be able to get it for a little less, but don't insult the guy.

Re: Is this car worth buyin?

The vin G should be the HO motor. That's if he's wrong about the 350 swap.
That's a good price. Also a better price with tyres and rims for 200 more.
good luck.

I would have that car towed if you have money left over to your house and get all the preliminary work done to it first before driving it. I am sure you would do that but that's just what I would do to be safe.

Re: Is this car worth buyin?

well turns out im gonna be missing out on a great deal, they only gave me $790 from my student loan, I was expecting 2000 but I wont be getting the rest for another 2 months, and I have to replace the transmission on my daily driver, so dang, unless I borrow money or somethin

I was really wonerin though lets just say its not the H.O. engine, it only has 140 horsepower? thats really low for a v8, what would be the quickest and cheapest way to get to about 250 whp without buying 1200 dollar heads?

anyways, the more and more im reading are that these cars are insanely slow? if their as slow as everyone makes them out to be, my 98 stock cavalier will drive circles around them, they cant be that slow can they?

you need to discuss the financial decisions with your parents or aunt or uncle. it doesn't sound as if you should be buying a play toy.

There will be other deals and opportunities when you are on more solid ground.
