???'s 84 Berlinetta fuel/wierd noise

well i filled up a week ago and only drive to work 26 miles round trip well gas gauge showed empty today cheked trip meter i had 60 miles since fill up what could be causing such crappy fuel milage? Next have this noise fron drivers side sounds like a heat shield lose but checked all good and can only here at acceleration from stop to about 2400 rpms then cant hear it anymore.

Could be a bad fuel guage or sender issues. I'd fill it up all the way and see where the guage reads, reset odometer, grab a full 2 gallon can of gas and put in trunk, then drive 200 miles - if the car didn't run out of gas by then, then your mileage should be OK (better than you thought at least).

15 gallons (a fill up) times 15 mpg (you should get better mileage, but trying to keep you from running out on the side of the road) = 225 miles, so rounded down to 200 for added measure.
