Upgrade your starter and alt...

Just some tidbits of info.

My 89 K1500 runs TPI with the TPI serpentine.

Upgraded my alt from the cs130 to the cs144 for idle performance with electric coolings fans, aux lighting, etc. Very easy- took a rat tail file and filed the top bolt slot 1mm, bottom mount slid right in- top bolt you have to size plus I used some copper pipe from a tiolet inlet pipe to sleeve the top bolt hole for a better fit. my belt that was at the max indicator limit of stretch was reused and now indicates at the extreme min of the tensioner- will take off and size it to a new belt. plug is the same, slightly enlarged the pos terminal and ran #4g to the pos hub at the firewall. Alt is AC Delco reman 334-2463A slick fit.

Time to look at starters and decided to go for a servicable gear reduction- ordered this LT4 style starter so haven't installed yet. Not impressed with overseas quality, but due to northern climate (-40C) needed something HD with less draw than the directdrive style- but had to have the staggered bolt mount 168 tooth. Look at Denso reman 281-8000 (1996 Suburban 5.7L) you'll likely need 10mm bolts- (2004 8.1L)
