just installed new brakes. now i smell burning brakes.

So i just installed new rear rotors and pads on my 89 gta. everything when good. so i went driving to break them in but after that i notice my car does not coast at all. from 40mph my car slows down rather quick. I hope i don't have a frozen caliper? i did this same brakejob 4 years ago and i had to replace my driver side rear caliper because that one was frozen on me. any idea. do they just need to be broken in more. i have been driving around for about 30 miles and still smell brakes.

This needs to/will be moved to the brakes board. Take the wheels and pads off and see wh ich one is glazing. Should indicate which one is sticking. Also, if you don't coast, does the car pull to one side or the other on it's own (more than from the crown of the road)? Should give you an idea. Hard to diagnose brake wear over the internet. Did you also replace the rotors? take a look at your old pads, did one of them wear more than the others?

Perhaps a flex line went bad in the exchange.

some new info. I did stop my car at about 40 mph hard and the car does not swing to any side. I did feel both wheels and they car both very warm. if a caliper was seized would it swing to one side? im giving it a week and see if it get any better.

it need only be "lazy" to keep the pads engaged and getting hot. Eventually, the pads will wear down enough that you'll have clearance and no more burning smell

now the more difficult question; what color are you going to paint the calipers or are they already painted?

Your calipers are probably working still if it's not pulling when you gradually apply the brakes. Someone already said it though, one or both probably aren't retracting fully.
