head options for stroker

last year me and my builder built a 414 stroker out of a 350 4 bolt block, used top of the line parts for bottom end, but i cheaped out on the heads as i had a new set of pro comp 210cc intake runners and 64 cc chamber aluminum heads, we did the best we could with them ported to a 1206 gasket, replaced inner valve springs to get more seat pressure out of them for my solid roller cam. this winter i pulled the heads off to find that they where in really bad shape, guides where worn out a good 1/16 to 1/8". retainer grove on valve where being pulled off. motor dosen't have many miles on it and only 12 1/8 mile passes on it at a steady 7.5 to 7.8.

now i'm looking at getting a new set of heads that will stand up and flow more then the pro comp ones, my builder has a set of brodix 18 degree, shaft mount, 2.08, that he wants 2500, is this a good deal,is there any othere heads out there that will be better but cheaper.

i will get my cam card tomorrow to give you guys a better idea of what i'm running, if there is any thing you need to know about motor let me know and i'll get it on here, thanks jason

Chad speier set of ported profiler 210's wouldnt do to bad..flow better than box stock procomps and for 1500 its not a bad deal at all. If you want to turn upper 6000 rpm range then try the Airwolf 220's for about 2000-2200 depending on what you get.

AFR has 227 as cast for 1500 and comp ported for 2000. Their 220's also are a good head but only come comp ported for 2000. Uses all standard 23 deg head stuff while the 227 will use 60/40 valve spacing and offset rockers or offset lifters.

Dart track 1's in 220's cc wouldnt be bad. Any of the main aftermarket 23 deg 210-220 cc heads probably will be fine here.

Your track times are good, matching a 210-220 cc head range.

You dont need 18 deg heads unless you really plan to turn rpm and make big power. They may not even work with your current pistons due to the valve angle, and 18deg heads usually have small chambers which raise compression alot.

i'm shifting car at 7000 now, it has hit 7500 a few times to, when we machined the pistions for valve clearence i think we left enought room for 18 degree heads as he had the set there and i was planing on upgrading down the road,

Re: head options for stroker

Its up to you if you want to go 18 deg but you can make big hp without going to special heads.

Theres a 640hp 406sbc on chevelles.com running the Airwolf 220 heads and a 254 deg duration hydraulic roller cam. Peaks at 6800 and stable to 7500. 11.5 to 1 compression pump gas motor on 91 oct. You can do wonders with good heads/intake and properly spec'd cam.

Thats a mid 6 second 1/8 mile setup in the right car.

Ditto, plenty of good 23 deg stuff out there stick with that unless you absolutely have to make a change.

with the procomps that where ported to 1206 gasket, i was turning it to 7500 with no problems, but thinking it was the poor quality of the heads that couldn't handle the rpm. broken springs, worn out guides. i ended up going with the 18 degree heads, had to pull the center 2 pistons out to cut the vlave reliefs wider they had the depth but not the width.
