distributor question

I recently put an HEI distributor in my car due to swapping to a carb. The vehicle is at top dead center on cyl 1, and I got the rotor to point towards the number 1 cylinder. The problem is once I put the cap on it is between two plugs. In the pic attached the black mark next to the retaining hook (right of) is where the rotor is pointed. Any help would be appreciated.

what do you mean "any help would be appreciated"?

my rotor is pointing at 3:30 for cylinder #1. As long as you know where #1 is you're all set

Re: distributor question

Yep - turn the base a little and the rotor will point where you want.

Did you get TDC #1 cylinder on compression stroke?

Yes, i have tdc on cyl 1. I moved the base and redid it. It now points at just one plug on the cap. Thanks for everyones input.

You do know there are two "TDCs" right? #1 cylinder piston comes up for compression stroke, AND it comes up for exaust stroke.

I'm just double checking that you got TDC #1 on compression stroke - ie finger over #1 spark plug hole and felt outward air pressure.
