Fuel pump keeps going bad
the dudes who owned my car before me converted it to carb, so its running off of an external low psi fuel pump, and it just went bad, again, this will be the fifth time ive had to replace it in two years
the intank pump has already been removed, so its not because its sucking through the old pump, there is no trash in the tank and the filters are still clean
someone told me that not having a return line or the pump not automatically shutting off once the bowl is full in the carb will burn the pump up eventually, i dont have a return line, its been clamped off and the line from the tank is just open, and my fuel pump never shuts off, it runs all the time as soon as i turn the key on
anybody have an idea of how i can fix this?
any help will be greatly appreciated
id love to just put the tpi back on, but im still waiting for a good deal to come along for everything i need to do it

Re: Fuel pump keeps going bad
I would check the voltage drop at the pump and check the Resistance of the ground wire to body ground (less then 1 ohm). You could add a fuel regulator with a return port but i don't think thats the problem unless your buying super cheap fuel pumps.

Re: Fuel pump keeps going bad
thanks will do, i have been buying cheap pumps though, havent gone over 50 bucks for one
where can i get a good, cheapish pump to buy that will work for a long time? of course ill be adding a fuel regulator with return with it, so i can help prevent this from happening again in 3 months

I would still check your power and ground as any pump will fail if it isn't right. You also stated that the old pump was removed, was the fuel sock also removed ? if so was a new one added or a filter installed between the tank and the new pump location ? if not you should add one as any trash at all from the tank will be running through the pump impellers.
