Power steering lines

I have a whole/crack in my power steering line. I think it is a high pressure rubber line slpiced in between two metal hard lines. What would be a good replacement line

Re: Power steering lines

If you can get it off, I would just take it to Napa or somewhere similar and have one fabbed IF you can't purchase another one from a parts house. Most of them should be available at your local parts house.

Re: Power steering lines

No need to fab up a custom hose. Just get an off the shelf replacement complete with steel lines and fittings on both ends. Available from any auto parts store.

And I am assuming you are looking at the pressure hose, not the return hose, since that is the one that usually lets go first. The return hose is easy to identify: it isn't crimped onto the lines, it's just attached with clamps. And replacing that one is easy - just use the correct length of neoprene hose.

Ya. I don't know if this is how it is supposed to be, or if the PO hacked it in. I suppose I can take a pic and bring it into napa

Re: Power steering lines

if its the return line you wont be able to take the metal line off the power steering pump as its part of the pump itself.

Re: Power steering lines

What is the actual size, not length of the return line? Some sources say that its 3/8"?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Power steering lines

Just go to the parts store and order up the one for your car.

Not worth the effort of trying to cobble someting together.

Re: Power steering lines

I have a new stock high pressure line. That's installed and working fine. I just want to confirm if the return hose is a 3/8"

Re: Power steering lines

I imagine it is either 3/8 or maybe 5/16.

Got under the hood and luckily found the original size of the hose still stenciled in a very small section.

It's 3/8 for the return hose.
