belt jumping

84 H.O.

Ive noticed the belt attached to the alternator jumps and sorta squels when I rev it. Could this be a bad pulley?

Check the alignment with the other pulleys.

Re: belt jumping

Sorry for such a late reply, but theres been a lot of bad weather. I got to look at it today and it seems the alt. is pushed back a bit. I dont have the greatest eye, but seems like its on a slight angle compared to the rest.

I have no knowledge of adjusting belts and pulleys

Re: belt jumping

Sounds like somebody hacked the smog pump off, and didn't bother noticing that the little bracket that held the diverter valve was behind that tubular spacer thing on the bottom alt bolt.

Pull out that bolt enough to be able to slip a washer in there to take up that space. Then tighten the belt correctly.

Re: belt jumping

The top of the alt is further back then the bottom of the alt.

Ill try and take a better look to see if anything was bent or if the bracket was hacked off like you said
