motor caught on fire...distributor question

Ok so i pulled the camaro out the garage this morning to go to work and when i got out the car to shut the garage the motor caught on fire lol luckily i was at my house and put the fire out before it caused significant damage. Its a carbd chevy 350 by the way... didnt do much damage but it melted the fuel line goin in the carb melted a vacuum line and some wires behind the distributor. i need to pull the distributor to get to the wires behind it to repair them. Now im fairly descent with cars mainly fuel injected cars tho, Mines a carbd car. So to take the distributor off to get to the wires do I have to find TDC or can i just mark the rotor to reinstall where i pulled off? (ive never had to replace/remove a distributor before)

Mark the rotor's position and also mark the body of the distributor where it goes into the manifold.
